We cut a lot of construction costs by changing the layout. We moved the bathroom door and kitchen instead of changing the bathroom layout to make room for a larger living room where the kitchen is now.

Re-cycle, re-use. Looks like you learned some valuable tips from your grandfather! I believe he was well ahead of his time for being “Green” and eco-friendly!!!! He didnt waste a thing.
He would “box” or mix old interior and exterior paint TOGETHER, didn’t matter what color, and paint a house! It was like an early form of art! lol A book needs to be written on the efficiency of Big Bob. Or the classic moments like putting cement bags in his brand new lincoln. LOL
